Meet Laura

Laura recently reached out to us in search of rent assistance. She is hardworking – she holds two jobs. Her primary job is in the helping fields here in town, and she also works in the local service industry.

But her world recently turned upside down. Her landlord told her they planned to raise the rent, and that if she couldn’t afford the increase, she needed to move out. On top of that, her primary job cut her hours temporarily due to circumstances out of her control.

Laura is not one to back down from adversity. She's taking proactive steps to improve her situation.

But Laura needed a boost. A donation from generous people like you gives people like her a chance to stay in the Upper Valley.

Laura looked at her budget and decided that it made more sense to stay in her home. She was concerned about paying the first and last month’s rent, plus a deposit, if she moved. Besides, she couldn’t find a place that was much cheaper.

She asked her landlord if she could stay and decided to get a roommate. She took another job temporarily, in the local service industry. Unfortunately, she wouldn’t receive her first paycheck for a month.

Facing this financial gap, Laura reached out to Upper Valley MEND for help. Upper Valley MEND was able to pay a month of her rent, because of the generosity of people like you.

Laura is grateful to be able to stay in her home and is weathering this storm. Soon, she will be back at work at her primary job, and in a better financial position.

This holiday season, please consider a gift to provide someone the breathing room they need when things take a turn for the worse.
