Shopper appreciates fresh produce at the Cupboard
The Community Cupboard's produce refrigerator is full! Gleaning season is ramping up, so local produce is available more and more. At the moment, mixed greens, radishes and pears are plentiful.
A local woman who prefers to remain anonymous has been coming to the Community Cupboard food pantry for the last two years.
“It has really offset my cost of living,” she says.
The availability of local produce is one thing the shopper appreciates about the Cupboard. When she comes in, she checks out the produce refrigerator and lets it dictate what her next meal will be. When there’s fresh lettuce, for example, she makes salads with homemade dressing, using a combination of olive oil, balsamic or red wine vinegar and fresh or dried herbs.
“It’s really wonderful to see all the fresh, organic local produce that all the farmers donate,” she says.
In addition to the produce, the shopper appreciates that the Cupboard is available as a resource for anyone who needs it.
“I just think it’s an amazing asset for the community,” she says. “I think it’s even more vital than ever due to price hikes and inflation.”
