Qualified Charitable Distributions

What Are Qualified Charitable Distributions?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to a qualified charity like Upper Valley MEND. If you're 70½ or older, this transfer can count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) while providing significant tax advantages.

Key Point: The funds go directly from your IRA to the charity without passing through your hands, making the transfer tax-free.

Benefits of QCDs

TAX-FREE TRANSFER

The distribution is not included in your taxable income, potentially keeping you in a lower tax bracket.

SATISFIES RMD REQUIREMENTS

QCDs count toward your required minimum distribution if you're 73 or older.

MAKES A BIG IMPACT

You may be about to direct more funds to the causes you care about without reducing your other income or affecting your lifestyle.
